Nestlé (Thai) Co., Ltd. has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art Nestlé PURINA PetCare factory in the Amata Industrial Estate, Rayong province. This new facility will manufacture high-quality wet pet food to cater to both the local market and export destinations across Asia, Oceania, and Africa (AOA).
With a rising global trend of pet ownership, demand for premium pet food has significantly increased in Thailand and the surrounding region. Nestlé’s latest investment strengthens its production capacity, ensuring the supply of nutritious and high-quality pet food to meet this growing demand.
Strengthening Nestlé’s Presence in the Pet Food Market
Designed for efficiency and sustainability, the Rayong factory will bolster Nestlé PURINA PetCare’s presence in the wet cat food single-serve product segment, a key growth category for the company. The factory will produce products under well-known brands such as PURINA ONE®, PRO PLAN®, FELIX®, and FANCY FEAST®, supplying both the Thai market and key export destinations. This expansion not only accelerates Nestlé’s revenue and profit growth but also reinforces Thailand’s role as a key production hub for high-quality pet food.
Strategic Location & Long-Term Commitment
Speaking at the factory’s grand opening, Mr. Victor Seah, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Indochina, emphasized the strategic importance of Thailand in Nestlé’s global operations.
“Thailand provides easy access to high-quality raw materials and serves as a logistical gateway to key AOA markets, particularly ASEAN. The five-billion-baht investment in this factory underscores Nestlé’s long-term commitment to Thailand and its dedication to creating quality employment opportunities for the local community. This investment aligns with our mission to improve the lives of both people and their pets,” said Mr. Seah.
Commitment to High-Quality Standards
Mr. Jean Grunenwald, CEO of Nestlé PURINA PetCare Asia, Oceania, and Africa, highlighted that the factory will be instrumental in manufacturing wet cat food single-serve products for both the Thai market and key export destinations such as Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Our initial export focus is on Japan, a market known for its stringent regulations and high consumer expectations. Compliance with Japan’s exacting standards underscores the superior quality of the products made at this new facility. Export expansion to ASEAN and other key markets will follow shortly,” he stated.
Mr. Giuseppe Pasqualini, Regional Business Head, Nestlé PURINA PetCare – ASEAN, reassured consumers about the advanced technology and stringent quality control measures in place at the new factory.
“Cat owners can trust that our products are made using high-quality, natural ingredients, supported by extensive R&D and strict international quality standards. Our products are designed to provide pets with optimal nutrition, taste, and enjoyment,” he said.
Advanced Technology & Sustainability Initiatives
The 93,872-square-meter facility is equipped with cutting-edge automation and sustainable production technologies. Key features include:
High-speed filling lines and robotic handling systems for efficient production.
Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) for seamless material transportation.
High-speed robotic multipackers capable of packaging more than 720 packs per minute.
Sustainable operations, including initiatives to make all packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025 and technology integration to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Upgrade to CO2 Laser Marking Technology – Nestlé has replaced traditional inkjet (CIJ) printers with Macsa ID’s CO2 laser marking system from Spain, ensuring high-precision, permanent expiry date printing. This move enhances efficiency, eliminates ink-related waste, and improves readability for compliance with stringent industry standards.
Nestlé’s Expanding Footprint in Thailand’s Pet Food Market
Nestlé’s first PURINA PetCare factory in Thailand was established in 2010 at the Amata Industrial Estate, focusing on dry dog and cat food production. Market data from Euromonitor indicates that Thailand’s pet food industry is experiencing rapid growth, with the total market for dog and cat food valued at 39 billion baht in 2021, reflecting an annual increase of 9.4%.
Nestlé’s latest investment marks a major milestone in its continued expansion, reaffirming its leadership in the premium pet food industry and its commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability in Thailand and beyond.
Nestlé upgraded from inkjet (CIJ) printers to Macsa ID’s CO2 laser marking system for several key reasons:
Higher Precision & Permanence
CO2 laser marking provides sharp, permanent markings that do not fade, ensuring that expiry dates and product codes remain legible throughout the product’s lifecycle.
Elimination of Consumables & Ink Waste
Unlike CIJ printers, which require ink and solvent refills, CO2 laser marking does not use consumables, reducing costs and eliminating waste from ink cartridges and solvents.
Improved Efficiency & Reliability
CIJ printers require frequent maintenance due to ink clogging and printhead cleaning, whereas laser marking systems operate with minimal maintenance and higher uptime.
Compliance with Industry Standards
Many international markets, especially Japan and Europe, demand clear, permanent product markings for traceability and regulatory compliance. Laser marking ensures consistent quality that meets these stringent requirements.
Sustainability & Environmental Benefits
Laser marking is a clean, eco-friendly solution since it does not produce ink-related waste or require chemical solvents, aligning with Nestlé’s sustainability goals.
By making this transition, Nestlé enhances operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental responsibility, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and quality in the pet food industry.
